Blog Post #1: Artist Statement

When seeing this assignment, my initial thought was, "I'm not an artist. What can I possibly write for my 'artist statement'"? But as I thought about it more, I realized that even though I'm not as artistic as some other people, I am very excited to learn and discover what kind of an artist this class will mold me into. I have always enjoyed video editing ever since I got my MacBook as an 8th grade graduation gift. I wasn't familiar with iMovie at all, but the ease and simplicity that helped me create works of art was truly astonishing. All of a sudden I was making movies and slideshows for my family vacations and when school projects came around I was the go to editor. I also have an interest in photography which I think goes hand in hand with videography. I took a professional photography class in the summer of 2011 and it truly broadened my horizons and my view of the world. I looked at the world through a new perspective and always saw something as an opportunity for a great photograph. Since then I haven't done much photography or video editing but I hope to bring out my inner artist this semester. I think what interests me the most in creating work are the different angles and perspectives you can show the same thing in. One item can have so many different meanings behind it by just shooting it different ways. I think that is one of the things I'm most excited about to experiment with and see how it helps me create and improve my work.
